ASHRAE
ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) publishes internationally referenced standards for ventilation, thermal comfort, and energy performance in buildings. The most commonly cited in Indian office projects are ASHRAE 62.1 (ventilation for acceptable indoor air quality) and ASHRAE 55 (thermal comfort).
While India has its own NBC and BEE codes, ASHRAE standards are often specified as a benchmark by multinational tenants — particularly GCC clients — who want performance levels consistent with their global portfolio. In a Hinjewadi IT park project, ASHRAE 62.1 fresh-air rates may be specified even when the base building only meets NBC minimums. Consultants use ASHRAE alongside ISHRAE guidance for tropically adapted designs.
