Data Cabling (structured)

Structured data cabling is the standardised infrastructure of copper or fibre cables, patch panels, and outlets that carries voice, data, and PoE signals throughout an office. Standards-based installation — typically to ISO/IEC 11801 or TIA-568 using Cat 6A as the baseline for new builds — ensures system performance and vendor-independence over the cable infrastructure's 15–25 year design life.

In Indian office fit-outs, structured cabling is specified by the IT team and installed under MEP scope. Cable routes, tray sizing, and riser positions must be coordinated with the reflected ceiling plan and raised floor design early in the process. Under-floor cable management in a raised access floor gives flexibility for future reconfigurations. Over-cable fill in a tray is one of the most common site-stage mistakes and affects thermal performance and signal integrity.
