GRIHA
GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) is India's own national green building rating system, developed by TERI in partnership with the Government of India. It rates buildings on a 5-star scale across categories of site, energy, water, material, and indoor environment quality. Unlike LEED and IGBC, GRIHA is specifically calibrated for Indian climate zones, construction practices, and available materials.
GRIHA is mandatory for certain government-funded buildings and is increasingly preferred by PSUs and public sector clients. For a corporate office fit-out in India, GRIHA is a practical choice when the client wants a domestically credible certification without the foreign-exchange cost of USGBC/GBCI administration fees. Many GRIHA criteria overlap with IGBC Green Interiors, so a project pursuing one can often achieve the other with marginal additional effort.
