ESG (in built environment)
ESG stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance — the three dimensions used to evaluate a company's sustainability performance. In the context of commercial real estate and office fit-out, ESG frameworks drive decisions about energy efficiency, material sourcing, indoor environment quality, accessibility, and supply-chain standards.
For Indian corporates with listed parent companies or global investors, ESG reporting increasingly includes scope 3 emissions from real estate, which means the fit-out specification is now a boardroom-level decision. SEBI's BRSR framework mandates disclosures that touch directly on office infrastructure. Design-build firms that can provide embodied carbon estimates, material EPDs, and post-occupancy IAQ data are meaningfully useful to their clients' sustainability teams.
