AHU (Air Handling Unit)
An Air Handling Unit (AHU) is the central component of a ducted HVAC system that conditions and circulates air through a building. It typically houses a fan, cooling/heating coils, filters, and dampers. In commercial office fit-outs, AHUs are usually provided by the landlord as part of the base building; tenants connect branch ducts to these units during the Cat B fit-out.
The capacity and zoning of the AHU directly constrains office layout — you cannot put a high-density server room under an AHU sized for open-plan office loads. In a Cat B fit-out for a 10,000 sq ft floor in Magarpatta, the MEP engineer will first survey the existing AHU configuration before designing supply and return ductwork. Knowing AHU locations early prevents costly rerouting later.
