Lux Level
Lux (lx) is the SI unit of illuminance — the amount of light falling on a surface per unit area. Lighting design standards specify target lux levels by task type: 300–500 lux at the workplane for general office work, 750 lux for technical drawing areas, 50–100 lux for circulation and breakout spaces. CIBSE LG7 and IS 3646 Part 1 are the primary references used in Indian office projects.
Achieving the right lux level is only part of the specification — uniformity ratio, glare control (UGR below 19 for display screen tasks), and colour rendering index (CRI 80+) are equally important. In a 12,000 sq ft open-plan floor in Baner, a well-calibrated DALI lighting system running at 350 lux with occupancy dimming can cut lighting energy use by 40% versus a fixed-output fitting layout.
