Mock-Up

A mock-up is a full-scale or representative physical prototype of a design element, built on-site or in a workshop for client review and approval before full production or installation proceeds. Mock-ups verify material appearance, construction technique, dimensional accuracy, and integration between adjacent elements.

In Indian office fit-outs, mock-ups are commonly produced for: a sample workstation cluster, a ceiling bay showing the integration of grid, lighting, HVAC diffuser, and sprinkler, a reception desk section, and a feature wall panel. The cost of a mock-up — typically ₹30,000–₹1,50,000 depending on complexity — is recovered many times over by avoiding costly corrections after full installation. Waiving mock-up approval to save time is a false economy that experienced project managers will resist.
